On Monday 10th February, Green Isle Foods
notified the Food Safety Authority Ireland (FSAI) of the detection of
undeclared peanut in a Donegal Catch product due to a contaminated garlic
ingredient. The FSAI issued an allergen alert to warn peanut sensitive consumers
of the associated risk.
This may make the batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanuts:
Product name | Batch code | Best before date |
Donegal Catch 4 Atlantic Fillets in a Barbeque Spiced Marinade | L22024304 | Sep 2025 |
L22024326 | Oct 2025 | |
L22024352 | Nov 2025 |
Following further information submitted on Tuesday 11th
February, a risk assessment by the FSAI has determined that because of the
levels found, a withdrawal or recall is not warranted. However, peanut
sensitive consumers should be informed of the contamination as a precaution.
Commenting Green Isle Foods said: “The safety of our
customers is always our number one priority. Following a detailed risk
assessment, the FSAI has determined that the product does not need to be
recalled. Given the circumstances, we understand that consumers may be
concerned, and we have made a customer care line available on 045 574 574 and
welcome customer queries.”
Donegal Catch is part of Green Isle Foods, an Irish-owned
company, employing over 110 people across two sites in Gurteen Co. Sligo and
