Irish Fish - Fishery Improvement Project

We have an important role to play in the sustainable development of the Irish fishing industry and the protection of our waters. We are key stakeholders in the Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) backed Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs), which focus on improving health and long term sustainability of Irish fisheries. This is a five year plan that focuses on fishing practices, fishery management, onshore handling and data collection for marine scientists.

This map shows the catchment areas and fishing ports where Donegal Catch Irish haddock and whiting are caught and landed in Ireland.

Other certifications for our fish include:

Sustainable Agriculture - Green Isle

Certification

100% of our vegetable
growers are Sustainable
Agriculture Initiative (SAI)
silver or gold certified.

Sun

All our vegetables and
fruit are grown outside,
under the sun.

Water

Our growers turn wastewater into energy, recycling as much as possible and using remaining water to irrigate the fields.

Energy

Stalks and carrot tops are ploughed back into the fields by our growers for nutrients and vegetable skins go to a biodigester to create energy.

We are delighted to be working with Bord Bia as a proud member of Ireland’s Origin Green food and drink Sustainability Programme. This programme enables Ireland’s food industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets. We have committed to sustainability targets for our Gurteen site, under the Origin Green Charter, and have had our sustainability plans independently verified by international auditors. Some of those targets include:
